Question by : Heavy engine vibration ! Help !?
I have just changed the head gasket on my 306 gti6 and also the cam belt. I bought the car as a non runner so not sure if this problem was there before as the Cambelt had snapped so like I said a non runner, but the engine is now back together and when the engine is idling it shakes and vibrates extremely badly, but once a tiny amount of throttle is applied it stops and runs nicely and how it should, also the throttle response is a little slow……….my first reaction was a misfire and an easy find and fix……….but as it dissapears with revs I am confused as to what it could be……
All parts of the head and manifold have been removed and cleaned whilst the engine work was carried out, the throttle body is spotless, all sensors cleaned and correctly plugged in………..
Before sending this off to a garage to be fixed I would very much appreciate some help as I have only bought this car as a cheap fix because it was just a head gasket and cam belt and don’t want to spend a great deal of money on it………..
Thank you very much….andy ![]()
Hey sorry I forgot to mention the cylinder head has been fixed and all valves changed as there was contact
and all engine mounts seem fine.
Could it be a faulty idle control valve as its slow and rough misfire on idle only ?

I wonder whether it is the engine mounts?
or perhaps the idle speed is too slow, if it is idling at 500 it would seem rough
